    Wonderland, by Melissa Lu, 9
May 1st, 2009 was the worst day of my life. I was grounded for the first time in my room by my parents because I ran into a big fight with my sister, Jessica Chew. She became selfish and bossy day after day. It was so unfair! She started the war and got me in trouble as always. Following my Mom’s order, I angrily dropped myself into the chair by the window. My watery eyes stared at the dark sky and my mind was frozen.
Outside my window, the light May rain was falling. It is such quiet and boring night. All of a sudden, lightening started flashing and booming in the sky. In a few seconds, I saw a ball of bright yellow and orange lightening passing right through the glass of my window, immediately to the side of me. The house instantly lost the power. A light bubble floated around the room and landed in the middle of my bedroom. Before I could get a close look, the light was out. I heard a strange sound: do-du do-du. It was so dark and I could not see anything. Suddenly, two white creatures with flashing eyes popped in the front of me and said to me quietly, “We are from outer space, here to invite you to visit our planet. We knew you had a very bad day and thought that you might like to take a break from this place. At our planet, you will never be grounded and bossed around by anybody. We live as one group. We treat everybody equally”.
This was just what I want to hear tonight. It was my chance to escape my annoyed sister for one night. However, I was very scared. My mind was debating. Oh my god it was too late. They reached over to me. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, I got shocked. Even though my mind already regretted but I could not talk and my body was out of control. They quickly put me onto their saucer, flew out the room and disappeared into the darkness.
When I woke up again, I saw two white aliens smiling at me as they told me about their kind, “Greetings. Can you hear me?”
“Yes, who are you? Where am I? ” I replied.
“We’re the highest technology beings. We have an unusual and brilliant brain like no other. We’re trained geniuses. My name is Rob L 19. My buddy here is Robby M 28. The way you tell us apart is that I am taller. He is heavier. Here is our garage for our spaceships. Are you ready for a tour?” ” the taller one said
    “S…S…Sure” I replied softly
The heavier one handed me a forever lasting breathing suit. “Please put this on!“
“Where did you get this?” I asked with high curiosity.
Rob L 19 informed me, “We made it ourselves from raw materials that we found on earth. We made them in our manufactory center. We go down to earth a couple times secretly. From these trips, we collect the raw materials and use our knowledge turning them into a suit. Let me take you to the manufacturing center first. I will introduce you to everyone there. Don’t be scared, on the way you will meet our director who is species of the sun.”
Rob L 19 took me to the lift station. The lift looks like a roller coaster with solar power. It can take you to anywhere on the planet. The ride is so fast. It only took a second to get the manufacture center. This is the biggest factory I have ever seen in my life. There, I saw hundreds of aliens who were busy working. The strangest thing is that the floor of this manufacture center is transparent. You can see through from here to the earth using a telescope. Rob L 19 said me, “We are close to the moon. The dark part on the floor is where the moon is. We can locate our missing parts anytime and anywhere in the space through this floor. It’s not always safe here. In the dark, there are other creatures. They are jealous of intelligence so they try to kill every one of us. However we have our way to destroy them. The light bulb on our suit will destroy all dark creatures. You’re safe with this suit“.
I was so amazed that everything was made within a millisecond in this center. I wish I had a camera to record everything here. When I almost reached the exit of the manufacture center, I saw a real man who looks like me, human. I went up to him and asked him why he was here. He told me that he had no idea how he got here but he really missed his family. He said: “My wife just had a baby. I should help raise our children. I cannot go back. Watch them carefully, make them happy and find your way back before they program you. They are very smart. Good Luck!”
“Hurry up, we’re going to the trash center”Rob L 19 yelled. In here, I saw how they sent away their wastes. Trashes first roll down, fall into a huge pit, and then cracked on a huge metal plate. The floor window is subsequently opened. The trash powder is dumped out into space. I’m sure some of them will fall to earth. The scariest thing here was that I saw creatures like Rob L 19 rolling into the pit.
I screamed, “Rob, help them. They’re going to die!”
Rob l 19 calmly said, “No worry, they’re from our hospital and have been diagnosed as useless creatures.”
I replied furiously, “You’re cruel! Everybody is useful in a way. They don’t deserve this horrible treatment.”
Rob L 19 shrugged and said, “I cannot help them. We only keep the geniuses here.”
I left this place with a horrible feeling. I feel so sorry for those innocent creatures that were dumped here. I didn’t even know how I got to the main building because my mind was still in the trash center.
The Main building has fifth floors. You can only enter from the top of the building. Everything here is upside down. Throughout the building, I have seen many computers and spaceships. Rob L 19 told me “every human from earth must be trained before they can live freely here. Many creatures will also be repaired in this building. Our highest technology control center is inside this building”.
After the quick tour, Rob L 19 and Rob M 28 began a series of training lessons for me. Learning how to drive a solar powered spaceship is the most fascinating class. It was easy. Shortly, Rob decided to have a test drive with me.
The roads in this planet are absolutely crazy! They are invisible. We have to go up and down a lot. The roads are tangled and the spaceships are floating through the space. To drive the ship, I have to push a button. The weird thing is that, I was driving without look forward. A computer in the space ship directed me what to do. The road map on the monitor looks like spaghetti in a bowl. Robby M 28 was a quiet alien. Now, he was talkative and taught me how to drive. I never knew that Robby M 28 was such a skilled driver. The thing that impressed them is that I am such a fast learner. This is because driving here has a lot to do with math. You must know how to calculate the distance between two spaceships. Ones not only have to get the calculation right, but also fast. In fact, the speed is the most important part. At one point, I saw that the computer said that a ship was only 5…4…3…2…1…feet away from me. It then flew right above me.
    “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,” I shouted in terror.
“No problem. They always do that,” Robby M 28 told me calmly.
Driving a spaceship is truly fun and adventurous. On our way back to the main building, we visited the hospital. At the hospital I saw creatures left the doctor’s room with labels as “Useless” or “Refurbishing”. The excitement of driving a spaceship disappears instantly. The bad feeling came back to me again. I know where the “useless” creatures will be ended up. This is the place I might be able to change the “useless” ones’ life. I went up to the doctor and said, “Why are you saying that they are useless”?
The doctor proudly pointed at a computer monitor, “The computer tells us their brain factor is 0. “
I yelled back, “You’re a doctor! You don’t follow a computer! Your job is to save them.”
He looked at me with plain expression and replied, “The brain factor must be 5 before I do anything.”
This is absolutely hopeless. There is no love and caring here. I start to feel homesick. I missed my parents and even my naughty sister, Jessica. I have to find a way to escape from here!!
Rob L 19 grabbed my hands and suggested “Let’s go to visit the laboratories that breed our offspring. You will like this place”.
We ran down to the hall way. The labs are in triangle shapes and the creatures are gathered in different colored cages. There is a flag labeled brain factor 0-10 on top of the cage. I cannot believe my eyes! Their intelligence is determined before they even have time to develop themselves.
Rob L 19 introduced, “Each cage will be treated equally by all of the progenitors. They will probably have similar jobs”.
“Where are their parents?” I asked
“What parents?” Rob M28 answered surprisingly
“Mom and Dad, Duh,” I responded.
“There’s no such thing as mom and dad here. We’re one family,” countered Rob L 19.
“That is not a family. Family does not do things by brain factors! On earth, our family only cares about who we are. Brain factors mean nothing to us when children are born. Our family loves us unconditionally.” I announced firmly.
Rob L 19 curiously asked me, “Is that real?”
“Yes! When we are sick, our parents will take care of us. They will never say we are useless” I replied with tears
“I bet you miss your family.” Rob M 28 asked
“Very badly, can you kindly send me back home?” I begged.
“Yes, we will,” Rob L 19 and Rob M28 saluted together.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! I was shocked by lightening again. When I opened my eyes, I found out that I was on the floor. My mother and Jessica were leaning toward to me with big smile faces. “I’m back, How? when? I do not care!” I thought to myself. I jumped up and hugged them all. I shouted, “I love you! I love you!!”
